Technical Specification For External Render Beads.

Contract Beads and Render Ltd commissioned the manufacture of external Upvc plastic rendering beads to the highest standard. Rendering beads / render beads can be attached using a dabbing technique lining the rendering bead to a true level. The render stop bead will be attached using a spot dab method every 500mm. The rendering stop beads can be attached using a masonry fixings in addition to the dab. The render beads are made from high quality Upvc and the stop bead has all the qualities of a standard galvanised render bead, but will never rust or deteriorate in the way a galvanised stop bead would. Any galvanised stop bead will soon be outlawed within the industry, and plastic external stop beads will be made mandatory within the new build marketplace. The price of galvanised stop beads are now much closer to the plastic stop bead as metal prices rocket, and of course stainless steel render beads are the costliest of all standard stop beads and in our opinion and experience can still fail in some circumstances.
The stop bead should be neatly mitred at internal and external corners, the stop bead will then hold the external render in place. Stop beads are generally used for the forming of straight lines wherever needed within the build. Render stop beads are now replacing the use of render bell beads where the render meets the damp proof course as it has been found the render bell bead can form a water trap although this is a matter for personal choice and sometimes building aesthetics or regulations.
Two stop beads can be used to form an expansion joint although not ideal. The use of two stop beads has been acceptable in some cases. The Upvc plastic external render stop bead has a reinforcing band within the bead to strengthen the stop bead. The external render stop bead can be made in a variety of colours making it ideal for through coloured renders or monocouche style. Monocouche being a name for a style of renders. Monocouche renders are a type of decorative finish to the outside of buildings to provide both decoration and weather protection.
The French term monocouche has been adopted by the European render industry, in an attempt to distinguish todays renders and their application methods from those of traditional renders and their application methods. It refers to the development of more advanced render formulations that can be applied in one coat (Mono-one .. Couche-coat)to form and cure as one  layer.
There are other terms that can be used to refer to these type of decorative finishes. A through colour  render and a scraped back finish render  are also indications of a monocouche product. They refer to the manufacturing  and application process’s . This is another problem with galvanised beads as the raw edge can often protrude.
The render angle bead was designed to form a straight edged corner on the building edges and of course around the window reveals. The angle bead can sometimes have a wider wing to the actual corner bead to generally mesh itself to the render coating. The majority of renderers prefer a standard render angle bead as they find it simpler to fit .The corner bead can be dabbed on using an adhesive strength mix and a mechanical fixing can be added where required. The angle beads come in a convenient 2.5 meter length suitable to most installations. The render corner beads come in a limited range of colours but stock is mainly carried in white and ivory. Angle / corner beads can be used with scraped back renders monacouche and plain floated type renders.

The use of galvanised corner bead is being phased out as the new building regs come into force , this is a step forward for the rendering industry as the ultimate breakdown of the galvanise finish seems inevitable not so with Upvc / Plastic they will never rust or breakdown as the galvanised angle bead would.
